This shit scares me

It is scary to think that we are actually this close as a nation to approving such a thing as fetal person-hood.
It is scary that my rights as a woman, are not guaranteed.
It is scary that this decision can be made for me.
Woah.

  1. Thanks for posting this (it’s very much related to the topic I’m writing about for our paper). It is scary. Really, really, scary. What sparked my interest in this paper topic was how uncomfortable I felt learning that women were declaring themselves feminists while, at the same time, denouncing women’s rights to their own bodies. The founders of our women’s studies program that spoke at our orientation class made a really good point; we can’t take these rights for granted and bask in the victories of previous feminists because these rights can be taken away.
Rachel Maddow just aired a segment, “The Assassination of Dr. George Tiller,” which revisited the assassination of an abortion doctor (George Tiller), who was murdered by a “pro-life” advocate. I find it frightening that someone could, on the one hand, preach the value of all human life, to the point where they are extending that value to an unborn fetus, and then turn around and engage in an act of murder against another human being (a conscious, living, breathing, feeling, human being). ??????!!! It’s a logical disconnect that, despite my bag of feminist tools, I am really struggling to understand. I also can’t help but consider how the women who need and use these services are forced to grapple with these hateful messages on top of the already complicated experience of getting an abortion.
